Welcome to summer…

The solstice has past and it’s time to dust off the flip-flops. The bridge is back up on Highway 5 and visitors are starting to swarm to the island. New businesses are opening just in time for the season.

Top Sail will be a new Sushi and Raw bar opening above local favorite Cask and Schooner corner of Front and Spring Street. Mike’s Wine Bar is opening on Second Street where Garden Path was and a new cheese shop is opened across from the Brickwork’s on Nichols Street.

If you haven’t been to Brickwork’s it is a must see. The Agricultural Guild bought the property two years ago and have totally redone it. If you saw it when it was Friday Harbor Electric you will be amazed at how well the building looks now. It will be the new permanent home of the Farmers Market Satardays from 10-1 and also the home of the Art Market Friday evenings 5-7.

Comedy to the Rescue is happening at the Community Theater Saturday night. This event is a benefit for the Animal Shelter and will feature Comedians Elayne Boosler, Dennis Blair and Wendy Liebman. The party starts at 6pm and will have gourmet hors d’oeuvres, sprits and live and silent auction items. This is usually a great event and should be even better this year. Tickets are $85.00 per person.

On the real estate side for the first time in three years we are starting to see raw land sell, so far we have had 5 sell with 9 pending. Rates are low inventory is high, now is a great time to buy property in the San Juan’s.

Hope to see you up here.
