Shaw Island is a community of only 241 residents, but has an active community life. For instance:

  • There are two Book Clubs that meet monthly
  • A Literature Class is held each quarter
  • The Library is open three days each week and staffed by volunteer librarians
  • The Library and Historical Society has an author’s series featuring prominent Northwest writers, and looks forward to welcoming Nancy Pearl this fall; and its New Year’s Eve fundraising event and party
  • Shaw Islanders, Inc, the community organization, maintains the Community Center and sponsors:
*Birthday Dinner – a twice/month dinner for the more mature members of the community
*Summer Camp – for all the children and grandchildren of Island residents
    *The Holiday Boutique for craftspeople
*July 4th celebrations of alternate years of Market Day/Fundraising Auction, and always complete with July 4th Parade and picnic
Developed and paid for the new Playfield at the County Park
  • Shaw Island Fire Department and EMT’s conduct regular educational programs and drills and are available for emergencies
  • Catholic and non-denominational worship services are available each week
  • Our first CSA farms are actively providing fresh vegetables this year
