San Juan Island is a very pet friendly place. All pets must be on a leash so you don’t have to worry about your dog getting accosted by someone’s not so friendly dog. We have many hiking trails and beaches that are great to explore. Here is a link of trails on San Juan Island with lots of useful maps and information: http://sanjuanislandtrails.org/ and a link to parks, shoreline and beaches with maps: https://www.visitsanjuans.com/islands/san-juan-island/parks-shorelines#island-selector-title

If you’re planning on coming to visit the San Juan Islands here is a link to a page on the San Juan Visitor Bureau website that lists all the accommodations’ that accept your fur buddy as a guest. https://www.visitsanjuans.com/where-to-stay/pet-friendly-accommodations
There are several restaurants on the island that have fair weather outdoor seating areas that allow pets: Blue Water, Cask and Schooner, Mike’s Café and Wine Bar, Market Chef, The Bean, Friday’s Crab House, and Lime Kiln Café at Roche Harbor. Many other restaurants will happily provide your meal to go so you can picnic with your best canine friend.

The island has two off leash dog parks. One is located behind the gas station by Roche Harbor and the other one is located on the edge of town on Mullis across from the airport and next to Browne’s Lumber. Both parks have separate areas for small and large dogs.

We are home to several great veterinarians in case you experience any health issues with your pet while you are here. The island also has several groomers and a great pet store in Friday Harbor just in case you need to get any pet supplies while you are here.

San Juan Island has a number of people that specialize in dog sitting, both day care and overnight. With a little advance planning you can bring your pet and still plan activities for yourself that your pet may not be able to do like kayaking, whale watching, zip lining and paddle boarding.

If you plan to travel to or from Canada with your pet make sure you have their rabies/shots certificate with you as well as your identification.
We know you can’t always bring your pet with you, so if you are visiting San Juan Island and really miss having a pair of ears to scratch go to the Animal Protection Society of Friday Harbor, you’re sure to find a furball there that would love some loving. http://apsfh.com/ . Who knows maybe you’ll find a new friend to take home with you.
