It’s often said that Christmas is for kids. That is so true for the San Juans, where the time is always special for our younger Islanders.

But then no holiday is more a delight for children than our warming, flowering, fragrant Easter.

It begins with the lovely church services across the archipelago, many of them featuring the parish children.

And if Easter eggs are your passion, the great annual Easter Egg Hunt at Roche Harbor is a world-renowned event. Adorable small creatures comb the resort’s classic gardens and grounds until every basket fills, and parents, grandparents, and friends take as much pure pleasure from the spectacle as if they were on the search themselves.

Arriving Spring and the joys of Easter are another reminder that however famous the Islands may be for romance and sport, we are also all about families and kids. That extends from our incomparable hiking and whale-watching to a much-honored school system second to none in turning out competent, caring, committed young Islanders who epitomize the vibrant community we are.

So break out the Easter baskets and bonnets and enjoy the season aborning. It’s a renewal, for young and old and in between, in every way.
